Claims Locking is a process to selectively delete the keys to a locked claim record. The actual claim record is not deleted; only the lock that is associated with the claim record is deleted. Deleting the lock releases the claim so it can be viewed and updated by a user or adjudicated if needed.
When a user selects a claim to be worked on (corrections, for an example), a lock is placed on the claim to prevent other users from updating it at the same time. The is done for security reasons and to maintain system integrity
When a claim record is locked, ND MMIS also prevents the claim from being adjudicated until all updates are completed and the lock is successfully removed from the record.
On a rare occasion, the lock placed on a claim record may not be released properly. This could occur when:
To release the claim manually, the claim supervisor or manager has been given the security permissions to access Claims Locking to delete the lock that was placed on the claim. A a list of all locked claims is displayed in the search results panel. After the claim supervisor or manager has reviewed the list of locked claims, he or she selects which locks to delete. After clicking Delete on the Claims Locking page, a confirmation message is displayed. After confirmation has been received by ND MMIS, the actual deletion of the lock occurs. All claims that had locks deleted are released to be viewed, updated, or corrected by any user or adjudicated by the system.
A claim locking batch job is also run daily to delete locks that are more than 24 hours old.
