You cannot delete or edit a hierarchy of MMIS benefit plans after it has been added and the hierarchy is current (the current system date is the same or greater than the hierarchy's beginning date). A benefit plan hierarchy must remain in the database for historical purposes and to process any claims that fall within the hierarchy's effective dates.
However, you can choose to void the individual effective-dated hierarchy so that it is not considered when processing claims. Normally you do this when the hierarchy was entered incorrectly and has not been used to process any claims.
If this hierarchy possibly has been used to process claims, you need to research those claims and make decisions about adjusting them. Once voided, the hierarchy cannot be edited.
If a hierarchy should no longer be used for claims after a certain date, you can close this sequence of plans by giving it an ending date. After this date, it will no longer be considered for claims whose dates fall outside the date range. This ending date should be today's date or a date in the future.
Optionally, you can:
To void or close a benefit plan hierarchy
On the LOB/Plan Hierarchy page, in the LOB/Benefit Plan Hierarchy table, click the appropriate Begin Date of the hierarchy that should no longer be used.
Note: The LOBs and benefit plans included in this hierarchy are displayed in the Rankings table.
