The ND MMIS event log is a centralized set of database tables. The event log receives entries from various application program interfaces (APIs) and coded modules. This entire process is called Event Logging.
Event logging is created by the interactions between hardware, software, network, operating system and applications. Some events start scheduled processes while other events trigger alarms and alerts for various operations and system interactions.
ND MMIS architecture is comprised of several servers that interact with each other to log events to the event log. The servers are as follows:
WebSphere Server Type | Purpose |
---|---|
Portal Server | Interacts with the user |
Application Server | Interacts with the database |
Process Server | Interacts with processes requested by the user or processes scheduled to run without user intervention |
A framework has been created using the WebSphere portal, application, and process servers. These servers interact with each other through a Service Interaction Bus (SIBus) to store events that have occurred within ND MMIS in the event log.
As you log on to North Dakota MMIS Web Portal, you are physically logging on to the WebSphere portal server where the Web application resides.
When you make an inquiry on a Medicaid member to view his or her information, the request is sent to the WebSphere application server. Since the inquiry may contain Protected Health Information (PHI) or Personally Identifiable Information (PII), an event is logged utilizing the Service Interaction Bus to store the Event Log.
Some examples of the types of events captured are:
ND MMIS has several event logging severity levels.
Event Log entries are maintained in the system for a specified duration and then archived into a separate archival storage medium. This duration is set up with a system parameter. Every time the configured duration elapses, all of the ND MMIS logged events which meet the archival rules and conditions are archived.
Search Event Logging is the administrative page where you can view events either by searching on inquiries made or events logged. You can search events by user ID, event type, event category, event entity type, or event time.
The Search Event Logging page contains the following tabs:
