Members use a PIN when they log on to the North Dakota MMIS Web Portal. PINs:
PINs are members' passwords. They expire in a specified number of days. The default is normally 90 days and can be updated when the security guidelines change.
Members are notified near the time that the password expires. The notice default is 14 days and it can be updated when the security guidelines change. The notice contains the number days remaining before your password expires.
For example, if a password expires in 45 days, then the password notification starts on day 31, and informs the member that the password expires in 14 days. The following day the message indicates the password expires in 13 days, and so on until the password is changed.
If the expired password is not changed before the last day, then the member must change the password on the very last day before he or she is authorized to log on to the North Dakota MMIS Web Portal.
When members attempt to log on using their PIN and fail multiple times, their account is locked. The default is three tries and can be updated when security guidelines change.
Members can request a PIN when their account is locked, they forget their PIN, or if their PIN expires.
Once they have submitted the request for a PIN, a PIN is automatically assigned and, if necessary, their account is unlocked. New PINs are mailed to members under a separate cover from any other mailings. PINs that are mailed are referred to as one-time PINs. The Change PIN page is automatically displayed when members log on with a one-time PIN, and they cannot access their information until they change the PIN.
Member Specialist with the appropriate security permissions can request a PIN for a member from the Member Summary or Member Details pages. Again, a PIN is mailed to the member and the member must change the PIN the first time he or she uses it to log on.
To request a new PIN - member
The member clicks the Request New PIN/Unlock My Account link on the North Dakota MMIS Web Portal. The member enters and re-enters his or her Member ID, and then clicks Yes, Submit Request. A request is sent to ND MMIS. A new one-time PIN is assigned. The new PIN is sent to the member in a letter.
When the member uses the newly assigned PIN the next time he or she logs on to the North Dakota MMIS Web Portal, the member is required to change the PIN to a new permanent PIN of his or her choosing.
To request a new PIN - Member Specialist
A Member Specialist clicks the Reset PIN Status link on the Member Summary or Member Details action bar. The PIN is mailed, and the member is required to change the PIN when he or she uses it to log on. A Member Specialist clicks Request New PIN to request a PIN for a member who has not previously been issued a PIN for access.
Members change their PINs for the following reasons:
To change a PIN - member
If a member is using a one-time PIN the Change PIN page is displayed the first time he or she logs on. The member enters the one-time (current) PIN, the new PIN of his or her choosing, and re-enters the new PIN, and then clicks the Change button.
If a member is changing a PIN before it expires, or because he or she chooses to, he or she logs on to the North Dakota MMIS Web Portal. Next, from the My Account menu, the member clicks Change PIN, completes the fields, and then clicks the Change button.
